Adelaide Hills Avocado
You will find Adelaide Hills Avocado at the Willunga Farmers Market fortnightly from December to March
Product line: Hass avocados
Glenn and Tania Fitzpatrick first came to the Market in 2009 four years after purchasing an avocado orchard and aptly named it Adelaide Hills Avocado.
Glenn and Tania initially sold their fruit through the Pooraka Produce Market but found it frustrating not knowing where the crop ended up and if the consumer enjoyed their fruit. They decided to sell direct to the public via the Willunga Farmers Market.
“It’s great selling direct to customers,” says Glenn. “We noticed in our first year that there is a much better return at the Market, and the nicest thing is the positive feedback we get about our avocados.
Their Chandlers Hill property near Clarendon is 22 hectares with 450 avocado trees growing on 12 hectares.
The Fitzpatrick’s have improved the irrigation system and there is a continuing improvement program for the remainder of the orchard.
The avocado trees are irrigated in summer via a water-efficient dripper system and as the soil is a clay and shale mix, watering need only occur three to four times per week.
No pesticide sprays are used on the avocado trees and sheep are grazed to effectively maintain weed control.
Adelaide Hills Avocado also sells at the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market, Pooraka Produce Market and supply a city Mexican restaurant and café in Pt Elliot.
Farm gate sales are available on weekends based on crop yields.
