Taronga Orchard
You will find Taronga Orchard at the Willunga Farmers Market every Saturday
Product line: almonds, plain or flavoured, almond meal, honey, eggs, Egyptian dukkah, dukkah
Margaret and Mick Jones farm 4 hectares of almonds trees on their Willunga property, which houses their bee hives in July, as it’s the perfect time for pollinating almond blossoms.
Taronga Orchard grows three almond varieties; Johnston, Somerton, and White Brandis. These are ready to eat and very tasty, but they are also transformed by Margaret and Mick into dozens of delicious almond-flavoured products.
Taronga Orchard’s savoury almonds include roasted, naturally smoked (no additives), smoke house, garlic, seasoned, chilli, salt and vinegar, smoky bacon, hot and spicy, sea salt and soy sauce.
Their sweetened almonds are coated in vanilla, cinnamon, coffee, toffee, dark chocolate, milk chocolate or just sugared.
New lines are continually added by Margaret as she enjoys experimenting with flavours. She’s even happy to take suggestions but not lemon; that one didn’t work!
Almond and apricot slices, milk rocks (like nougat) or almond pastes are popular as are their almonds in honey. Almond meal and an assortment of honey are also sold at the Market.
Taronga Orchard’s dukkah is a spice mix ready to serve with bread and oil. The Egyptian-flavoured one contains chilli and the other variety has fennel.
Fresh eggs are supplied by their chickens, but as Margaret says, you can’t force them to work so eggs may not be available all year round.
Taronga Orchard products are also available at the Adelaide Airport, southern vales wineries, Adelaide Showgrounds Farmers Market, Stirling and Goolwa markets, and IGA supermarkets in the city.
