Willunga Plains Flowers
You will find Willunga Plains Flowers at the Willunga Farmers Market every week spring-autumn
Product line: cut flowers – gerberas, lisianthus and lilies; sweet peas and ranunculus only in winter
One of the brightest stalls at the Market is Willunga Plains Flowers. On an average week this stall sells nearly 600 of the freshest, softest bundles of colour.
Willunga Plains Flowers specialises in gerberas, lisianthus and lilies year round, and sweet peas and ranunculus in the winter months.
Situated halfway between Willunga and Aldinga, it is run by Colin and Ruth Carpenter who have been farming flowers for 25 years.
“We try and grow a quality fresh product which is picked on the Friday to keep them as fresh as possible,” says Colin.
Lisianthus are the best sellers but hardest to grow. They come in assorted hues of purple, white or pink, a creamy yellow, two toned red and white, and blue and white. Lisianthus will last 3 weeks in a vase.
Gerberas are predominantly red, yellow, orange, and light or hot pink. They last 2–3 weeks in a vase.
Trumpet Christmas lilies are white, and the Asiatic ones are white too but come in pink, yellow, and orange and red. They last up to 2 weeks.
Ranunculus comes in pink, yellow and orange or a mix of colours. They last over a week.
Sweet pea is grown for its soft pastel colours. They last 1 week.
You can also buy Willunga Plains Flowers direct from the Adelaide Showground Farmers Market and various fruit and vegetable shops around the state.
