Bill and Soula
You will find Bill and Soula at the Willunga Farmers Market from November to end of September
Product line: citrus, stone fruit, dried fruit, persimmons, pomegranates, watermelon and rockmelon
When you tuck into freshly picked fruit the flavour is unbeatable. This is why Bill and Soula Andonopoulos’ fruit is picked ripe and ready to eat.
Bill and Soula have a guest stall at the Willunga Farmers Market, as their produce is not readily available on the Fleurieu Peninsula. All up they grow 5-6000 fruit trees using bio-tech organic fertilisers which feed the trees and put nutrients back into the soil. Their Riverland farms are carefully drip irrigated to save water with watermelon and rockmelon planted in between young fruit trees to utilise the same watering system.
Stone fruit become available in early November and finish at the end of May. Sixteen varieties of nectarines are grown, 30 of peaches, 10 of plums, and about 13 of apricots.
Excess peaches, nectarines and apricots are sundried (some sulphur free) and available all year round.
Citrus is ready from June to late August/early September. These include naval oranges, mandarins and lemons. They also have a selection of young lime trees not quite ready to fruit.
Persimmons are ready from May to July, and pomegranates from March to June. Watermelon, rockmelon and cassava (a yellow honeydew melon) start at the end of December until May. However, if it’s a cold year then the start may be delayed until mid January.
Young prune trees are in now and should be ready to produce fruit by 2012.
Bill and Soula’s fresh and dried fruit are also sold at the Adelaide Showground and Victor Harbor Farmers Markets.
