Biscuit Basket
You will find The Biscuit Basket at the Willunga Farmers Market fortnightly (but not during January or February)
Product line: sweet biscuits
The Biscuit Basket stallholders don’t just talk the talk, they walk the walk, and they do it well. Organised by Cheryl Keller and her husband Trevor, Minister of the Seaford Lutheran Church, they work with a group of about 15 volunteers and have great fun in cooking, packing and selling their biscuits.
“The Market is a positive example of community and we’re not here to talk church but to be part of the community,” says Trevor. “Values are not all about talk; it’s about living the values that inform us.”
The Biscuit Basket sell in excess of 100 packets each time they’re at the Market.
They have a delicious range and their regulars have their favourites:
• Chocolate chip
• White chocolate and fig
• Passionfruit melting moments
• Ginger nut
• Anzac
• Apricot oat
• Orange poppy seed
• Afternoon tea with and without cornflakes
• Chocolate crunchy
• Gluten-free melting moments
• Gems
• Shrewbury
Local flour, eggs and figs are used and other local ingredients as can be sourced from the Fleurieu Peninsula.
Members of the group are all accredited with food handling and they each specialise in particular biscuit varieties which they bake in their council-approved home kitchens.
“I had a go at the chocolate chip and white chocolate and fig biscuits when someone had to pull out and I really enjoy that,” says Trevor.
They pack the biscuits on Thursday and one couple takes it in turn selling at the Market.
All the money goes back into ministry programs for children and young people.
“It’s a fair bit of effort but we think farmers markets are absolutely marvellous,” says Trevor.
