Hart's Vegetables

- The Hart brothers
You will find Hart’s Vegetables at the Willunga Farmers Market every Saturday.
Product line: specialising in gourmet potatoes and seasonal vegies
Brothers Wes and Brentyn Hart are third generation market gardeners. Their grandfather worked land in Campbelltown when it was the main food producing area for Adelaide and Hart’s Vegetables now produce crisp, fresh, seasonal produce in Meadows, including their sought-after potatoes.
They grow over 20 varieties of potatoes but as there’s not enough stall space to display them all eight to 10 varieties are profiled each week when they come into season.
Wes and Brentyn Hart’s first stall stocked only common red and white potatoes of which they sold out. But customers kept asking for different varieties, and as Wes looked over to the neighbouring apple stall, he saw quite a range on sale and decided to expand their lines too.
Wes and Brentyn researched different potato varieties and now some of their older and more unusual lines include ‘King Edwards’, ‘Kipflers’, ‘Dutch cream’ and ‘Purple congos’ (yes, they really are purple), believed to come from Peru.
To help shoppers comprehend the variety and use of all the potatoes on sale every week, Hart’s have cooking suggestions listed with each line.
Other weekly staples include cauliflowers, cabbage and broccoli, which are planted fortnightly so they’re always available and their beetroot, salad onions, corn (a customer favourite) and peas are planted seasonally.
