Deb's excellent Indian adventure

- An Indian market stall
Deb Tucker – one of our wonderful community committee members – recently returned from an amazing trip to India. She was so enthused with the markets she visited that she wrote a letter to all the stallholders to encourage them to be more vibrant and bold in their stall displays. Here are her thoughts and beautiful photos for all to share! Deb wrote:
Dear Stallholders
I am a committee member of the Willunga Farmers Market, and I am writing to share with you some of my food experiences and observations while travelling in northern India and Nepal.
It is called “Incredible India!”, and I can see why! The massive population chokes the roads, trains, buses, lanes and footpaths – the mass of people has to be fed, clothed, educated and transported etc, and the logistics and infrastructure is almost impossible for us to conceive – as we live in such a sparsely populated country and with (comparative) wealth all around us!
I was drawn to the markets, of course, and I loved strolling through the food sections, with my camera on stand by – I was so impressed by the inventive, eye catching displays – with banana bunches hanging from little strings, and marvellous patterns of colour and shape with VERTICAL STACKING. The best presented stalls had the biggest crowds – and the MOST TRADING!! Even a square of cloth laid on the ground with a simple pattern of display caught my eye. I hope you enjoy these photos!
Kind regards,
Deb Tucker
